Because the 1970's Major League Baseball has used what is called a designated hitter in the American League. The designated player, or DH for brief, is a gamer in the lineup whose only task is to hit in the location of another gamer. The DH is allowed to strike for any other player in the lineup, allowing the player who is not hitting to still play
